Barnard Stares at NGC 2170

NASA APOD · John Davis
COSMIC MESSAGE

Barnard's Loop is a vast arc of glowing hydrogen gas in the constellation Orion. It spans about 300 light-years and is too faint to see with the naked eye. This structure was shaped by ancient supernova explosions and the powerful winds from massive stars. The image also shows other nebulae, like the reflection nebula NGC 2170.
