Sometimes a cloudy moon appears colorful, an effect called a lunar corona. This happens when light diffracts around similarly-sized water droplets in a mostly transparent cloud. Since different colors of light have different wavelengths, each color diffracts differently. This image captures a lunar corona with Jupiter and Saturn nearby.
