Messier Craters in Stereo

COSMIC MESSAGE
These two large craters on the Moon, Messier and Messier A, are named after astronomer Charles Messier. They are located in the smooth lunar Sea of Fertility. Their elongated shapes suggest they were formed by an impactor that struck the surface at a very shallow angle. Messier A is distinctive for its bright rays that extend from it.
