Flowing Auroras Over Norway
NASA APOD · Tor Even Mathisen
COSMIC MESSAGE
Auroras are becoming more frequent as the Sun approaches its eleven-year peak in activity. This solar activity, including sunspots and flares, ejects charged particles into space. Some of these particles hit Earth's magnetosphere, triggering auroras. This timelapse shows auroras captured above Tromsø, Norway, in late 2010.
