The Large Magellanic Cloud in Ultraviolet
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Swift satellite created this ultraviolet mosaic of the Large Magellanic Cloud, our nearest galaxy. The image highlights the hottest, most recently formed stars, which shine brightly in blue and ultraviolet light. These massive young stars help astronomers map star formation in the LMC. A visible light view would instead emphasize older stars.
