Even asteroids can have rings. This surprising discovery was announced two weeks ago, when the distant asteroid 10199 Chariklo was found to have at least two orbiting rings. Chariklo is the largest of the centaur asteroids, at about 250 kilometers in diameter. It is the smallest known object to have rings, and orbits the Sun between Saturn and Uranus.
