Aurora Dog over Alaska

NASA APOD · John Chumack
COSMIC MESSAGE

Last month near Fairbanks, Alaska, astrophotographer John Chumack captured an unusual aurora. This bright aurora appeared to change into the shape of a jumping dog, complete with a curly tail. He used a 15-second exposure through a wide-angle lens to capture this fleeting natural apparition. The background sky was also filled with stars.
