The Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex is one of the closest star-forming regions to us, about 400 light-years away. Rho Ophiuchi itself is a binary star system, visible in the bright region on the right. The area is distinguished by colorful surroundings, including a red emission nebula and numerous light and dark brown dust lanes. The bright yellow star Antares is also visible near the upper right of this wide-field image.
