NGC 4762: A Galaxy on the Edge

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 4762 is a disk galaxy seen almost perfectly edge-on, appearing as a bright line in the sky. This Hubble Space Telescope image shows how incredibly thin disk galaxies can be. Located in the Virgo Cluster, NGC 4762's lack of a visible dust lane suggests it is a low-dust lenticular galaxy. It is difficult to determine its exact disk galaxy type from this perspective.
