Leonids Above Torre de la Guaita

COSMIC MESSAGE
The Leonids Meteor Shower reached an impressive peak in 1999. Observers in Europe saw over 1000 meteors per hour, a true meteor storm. This photograph is a 20-minute exposure ending just before the main peak. The Leonids are famous for their periodic meteor storms, which occur when Earth passes through denser streams of debris left by Comet Tempel-Tuttle.
