Every December, Earth passes through a stream of debris from asteroid 3200 Phaethon. This image shows the Geminid meteor shower appearing to originate from the constellation Gemini. The meteors are sand-sized bits of rock burning up in our atmosphere. They streak across the sky, appearing as bright, fast-moving points of light.
