100 Million Stars in the Andromeda Galaxy
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
To understand the stars in the Andromeda galaxy, researchers used the Hubble Space Telescope to create the largest image ever taken of it. This project, called the Panchromatic Hubble Andromeda Treasury, involved thousands of observations. It resolved over 100 million stars across about a third of the galaxy. The image shows the galaxy's central part on the far left and a blue spiral arm.
