The Last Days of Venus as the Evening Star

NASA APOD · Tamas Ladanyi
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image, taken on January 1 from Veszprem, Hungary, shows Venus in a crescent phase, not a young crescent moon. Venus was about 40 million kilometers away and only about two percent illuminated by sunlight. It was captured as it set in the western sky, marking its final days as the Evening Star for the beginning of 2022. Despite its languishing in the twilight, Venus appeared larger in apparent size.
