Mystic Mountain Dust Pillars
NASA APOD · David Forteza
COSMIC MESSAGE
In the Carina Nebula, massive, newly formed stars are evaporating the dusty nurseries where they were born. These structures, informally called Mystic Mountain, appear as dark pillars of dust. While dust dominates their appearance, they are mostly composed of clear hydrogen gas. The energetic light and winds from the young stars are slowly dispersing these stellar cradles.
