COSMIC MESSAGE

Messier 83, also known as The Southern Pinwheel, is a spiral galaxy 12 million light-years away in the constellation Hydra. Its prominent spiral arms are outlined by dark dust lanes and blue star clusters. Reddish star-forming regions dot the arms, giving it the nickname 'The Thousand-Ruby Galaxy.' M83 is about 40,000 light-years across.
