Infrared Portrait of the Large Magellanic Cloud

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

This infrared portrait of the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, shows rippling dust clouds. The composite image from the Herschel Space Observatory and Spitzer Space Telescope reveals that these clouds fill the dwarf galaxy. Warmer dust, shown in blue hues from Spitzer data, indicates areas heated by young stars. Herschel's instruments contributed the data showing cooler dust.
