NASA APOD · Mark Hanson
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 1566, also known as the Spanish Dancer galaxy, is a spiral galaxy about 60 million light-years away in the southern constellation Dorado. We see it face-on from our Milky Way perspective. Its two graceful spiral arms, spanning over 100,000 light-years, are traced by bright blue star clusters, pinkish star-forming regions, and swirling cosmic dust. Its flaring center makes it one of the closest and brightest Seyfert galaxies.
