Newborn stars are forming within the Eagle Nebula, specifically in the Pillars of Creation. This 1995 Hubble Space Telescope image shows evaporating gaseous globules, or EGGs, emerging from dense pillars of gas and dust. These pillars, light-years in length, are so dense that gas inside them contracts to form stars. Intense radiation from bright young stars causes less dense material to boil away.
