Omega Centauri, cataloged as NGC 5139, is the largest and brightest globular cluster, containing over ten million stars. This ancient ball of stars predates our Sun and Earth. It is visible to the unaided eye for southern observers. Omega Centauri is one of about 200 globular clusters that orbit the Milky Way today.
