Moon over Makemake
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Makemake, a dwarf planet in the Kuiper belt, has a moon, nicknamed MK2. This moon is about 1,300 times fainter than Makemake, reflecting sunlight with a dark, charcoal-like surface. The Hubble Space Telescope found it using the same technique that located Pluto's small satellites. Further observations will help measure the system's mass and density.
