NASA APOD · Michael Sidonio
COSMIC MESSAGE

IC 4628, also known as the Prawn Nebula, is an emission nebula in the constellation Scorpius, about 6,000 light-years away. Hot, massive stars irradiate the nebula with ultraviolet light, stripping electrons from atoms. When these electrons recombine, they produce the visible glow, dominated by the red emission of hydrogen. The region shown is about 250 light-years across.
