NGC 1672: Barred Spiral Galaxy from Hubble

NASA APOD · Steve Cooper
COSMIC MESSAGE

Many spiral galaxies, including our own Milky Way, feature a bar across their centers. NGC 1672 is a prominently barred spiral galaxy, captured in exquisite detail by the Hubble Space Telescope. The image reveals dark dust lanes, bright blue clusters of young stars, and red emission nebulae of glowing hydrogen gas. A long, bright bar of stars stretches across its center, leading to an active nucleus likely housing a supermassive black hole.
