COSMIC MESSAGE

These three bright nebulae are stellar nurseries in Sagittarius, about five thousand light-years away. Messier cataloged two of them: M8, the Lagoon Nebula, and M20, the Trifid Nebula. NGC 6559, separated from M8 by a dark dust lane, is the third emission region.
