COSMIC MESSAGE
The Eagle Nebula, M16, and the Swan Nebula, M17, are both active star-forming regions in the Sagittarius spiral arm of our Milky Way galaxy. The Eagle is at the top of the image, the Swan at the bottom. Both nebulae, about 5,500 light-years away, show reddish emission from hydrogen gas and dark dust lanes.
