Jupiter and Mars appeared close together in the predawn sky on January 7. This snapshot from January 5 shows Jupiter on the left and Mars in the middle, aligned with the star Zubenelgenubi. The two planets were only a quarter of a degree apart, about half the diameter of a full moon.
