The Great Carina Nebula, also known as NGC 3372, is one of the largest star-forming regions in our galaxy. It is easily visible to the unaided eye in the southern sky. This image shows it high above Lake Ballard in Western Australia. The Milky Way stretches beyond the southern horizon, with Alpha and Beta Centauri and the Southern Cross also visible.
