NGC 2623: Merging Galaxies from Hubble

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

When galaxies collide, stars form in new ways. The Hubble Space Telescope imaged NGC 2623, a galaxy merger, to study this process. Observations from Hubble, Spitzer, XMM-Newton, and GALEX show two spiral galaxies that have merged, their cores now unified into one active galactic nucleus.
