COSMIC MESSAGE
NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, TESS, launched on a Falcon 9 rocket to begin its search for exoplanets. This close-up photo shows the nine Merlin engines of the Falcon 9 first stage. TESS will use a series of thruster burns to reach its highly elliptical orbit. From there, it will scan the sky for distant worlds orbiting other stars.
