Moon Halo over Stone Circle

NASA APOD · Alyn Wallace Photography
COSMIC MESSAGE

A halo around the Moon is a common sight, caused by high, thin clouds containing millions of tiny ice crystals. Each crystal acts like a miniature lens, refracting light at 22 degrees. This refraction creates the circular halo with a radius of 22 degrees around the Moon. A similar halo can sometimes be seen around the Sun during the day.
