Milky Way vs Airglow Australis

NASA APOD · Yuri Beletsky
COSMIC MESSAGE

An intense airglow floods this all-sky view from Las Campanas Observatory in Chile. The airglow, caused by chemical excitation in the upper atmosphere, was so bright it dimmed parts of the Milky Way. It originates at an altitude similar to auroras. This phenomenon is often captured in color by sensitive digital cameras.
