Dust lanes swirl around the core of Messier 96, a spiral galaxy about 100,000 light-years across. This makes it similar in size to our own Milky Way. M96, also known as NGC 3368, is about 35 million light-years distant. It is a dominant member of the Leo I galaxy group, and this image was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.
