COSMIC MESSAGE
NASA's SOFIA observatory, a modified 747 aircraft, used its HAWC+ instrument to image the magnetic field at the center of our Milky Way Galaxy. HAWC+ maps magnetism by observing polarized infrared light from dust grains aligned with the local magnetic field. This research helps us understand the environment around our galaxy's supermassive black hole. The black hole is known to absorb gas from stars it has recently destroyed.
