8 Minute and 30 Second Eclipse
On July 2nd, a total solar eclipse was visible from the Southern Pacific Ocean. From a charter flight at 41,000 feet, the Moon completely blocked the Sun for about 8 minutes and 30 seconds. The plane was traveling with a tailwind at the mid-eclipse intercept point. The point of maximum eclipse on Earth's surface lasted about 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
