M16 and the Eagle Nebula
NASA APOD · Martin Pugh
COSMIC MESSAGE
M16, also known as the Eagle Nebula, is a young star cluster surrounded by glowing gas and dust. This region, about 7,000 light-years away, is famous for its 'Pillars of Creation,' dense columns of gas and dust where new stars are forming. These structures, light-years long, are slowly eroding under the intense radiation from nearby hot, young stars.
