Markarian's Chain

COSMIC MESSAGE
Markarian's Chain is a string of galaxies in the heart of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster, about 50 million light-years away. Lenticular galaxies M84 and M86 anchor the chain at the bottom of the frame. Near the center, you can spot the interacting galaxies NGC 4438 and NGC 4435, sometimes called Markarian's Eyes. This deep telescopic view reveals many galaxies in this dense cluster.
