M57: The Ring Nebula from Hubble
The Ring Nebula, M57, is a famous celestial circle. Its classic appearance is due to our perspective, looking down the long axis of a football-shaped cloud of glowing gas. This Hubble image helped map the nebula's 3-D structure. It shows a dense, donut-like ring wrapped around the middle of the gas cloud.
