Comet Leonard's Long Tail

NASA APOD · Jan Hattenbach
COSMIC MESSAGE

Comet Leonard's extremely long tail was too dim and diffuse to see with the naked eye or even small telescopes. But a camera, from a dark location with a low horizon, could capture it. This image was created from two deep, wide-angle camera exposures. Comet Leonard made its closest approach to the Sun between the orbits of Mercury and Venus.
