Stars, Dust, and Gas Near Antares

NASA APOD · Mario Cogo (Galax Lux)
COSMIC MESSAGE

The sky near Antares and Rho Ophiuchi is both dusty and colorful. Blue reflection nebulae are formed by fine dust illuminated by starlight from the front. Reddish emission nebulae are gaseous clouds excited by ultraviolet starlight. Dark, backlit dust clouds block starlight.
