M16: A Star Forming Pillar from Webb

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Inside this column of gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula, M16, new stars are forming. This pillar appears solid due to its high dust content and great depth, but it is actually low in density. Glowing areas within the pillar are lit by these newly formed stars, shining in red and infrared light. Blue light is scattered away by the intervening interstellar dust.
