Arp 78: Peculiar Galaxy in Aries

NASA APOD · Josep Drudis
COSMIC MESSAGE

Arp 78 is a peculiar spiral galaxy in Aries, about 100 million light-years away. It's an enormous 200,000 light-years across, twice the size of our Milky Way. This galaxy, also known as NGC 772, has a prominent, overdeveloped outer spiral arm. This arm is pumped up by gravitational interaction, tracking along sweeping dust lanes and lined with young blue star clusters.
