Protostellar Outflows in Serpens

The James Webb Space Telescope captured jets of material blasting from newborn stars in the Serpens Nebula. These powerful protostellar outflows are bipolar, twin jets spewing in opposite directions, perpendicular to the accretion disks around the spinning stellar infants. The reddish color in the NIRcam image is from molecular hydrogen and carbon monoxide, produced as the jets collide with gas and dust.
