The Horsehead Nebula and the Orion Nebula are contrasting cosmic vistas, about 1,500 light-years away in the constellation Orion. The familiar Horsehead appears as a dark cloud, a silhouette against the long glow of hydrogen, shown here in gold. Alnitak, the easternmost star in Orion's belt, is the bright star to the left of the Horsehead in this mosaic.
