The stars in NGC 602 are actively destroying their surrounding pillars of gas and dust. Newly formed stars in the cluster's center emit energetic light, causing the pillars to evaporate. Meanwhile, these same pillars are still trying to form new stars. This new view, captured by the Webb Space Telescope in multiple infrared colors, shows this dynamic process.
