Planet Earth at Twilight
No sharp boundary marks the passage of day into night in this view of Earth. The shadow line, or terminator, is diffuse, showing the gradual transition to darkness we call twilight. Sunlight, filtered through the dusty troposphere, gently reddens the cloud tops. A clear, high-altitude layer is visible along the day side, showing how our atmosphere nurtures life.
