COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 6872, in the southern constellation Pavo, is a barred spiral galaxy over 500,000 light-years across. It is the largest known spiral galaxy, at least five times the size of our own Milky Way. Its stretched-out spiral arms suggest the wings of a giant bird.
