The distorted galaxy NGC 2442 is found in the southern constellation Volans, about 50 million light-years away. Its two spiral arms extend from a central bar, giving it a hook shape in this image. The photo also reveals dust lanes, young blue star clusters, and reddish star-forming regions around a yellow core.
