Red Sprite Lightning

Red sprites are fleeting, high-altitude electrical discharges that occur above thunderclouds. They appear as reddish flashes, extending upwards to the ionosphere, about 90 kilometers above Earth's surface. These events are very brief, lasting only a fraction of a second. Scientists confirmed their existence in the 1990s using aircraft-mounted cameras, revealing a new dimension of atmospheric electricity.
