Virgo Cluster Galaxies

NASA APOD · Anglo-Australian Telescope Board
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image shows several galaxies within the Virgo Cluster, the closest cluster of galaxies to the Milky Way. The cluster spans more than five degrees in the sky, about ten times the width of a full Moon, and contains over a hundred galaxies. The Virgo Cluster is so massive that its gravity is noticeably pulling our own galaxy toward it. Among those pictured are Messier objects M84 and M86.
