COSMIC MESSAGE
The Tarantula Nebula, also known as 30 Doradus, is a giant star-forming region over a thousand light-years across. It resides in the Large Magellanic Cloud, one of our galaxy's satellites, about 180,000 light-years away. It is the most active star-forming region in the entire Local Group of galaxies. This image uses narrow-band filters to show emission from ionized hydrogen and oxygen atoms.
