A Distant Cluster of Galaxies

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Every bright object in this 1994 Hubble Space Telescope photograph is a galaxy. This rich cluster, CL 0939+4713, is almost halfway across the visible universe. Observations like this suggest that past clusters had a higher proportion of spiral galaxies compared to nearby clusters, which are typically dominated by ellipticals.
